Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the typical time commitment for the production?
Rehearsals begin Tuesday, October 27th. Performances run from Saturday, November 21st – Thursday, December 24th
A Christmas Carol features two youth casts that rotate for all public performances beginning Nov. 21st, so each youth performer appears in roughly half of the performance dates.
All Mondays during the rehearsal and performance period are dark. (No rehearsal or performance)
Do youth performers get paid?
Yes! KCRep will provide each youth cast member with a $500 stipend to help offset food and travel expenses traditionally covered by parents/guardians.
Where are rehearsals held?
Initial rehearsals will be held in the KC Rep rehearsal hall, Room 211, 4747 Troost Ave.
Onstage rehearsals and performances are located in Spencer Theater – James C. Olson Performing Arts Center on the UMKC campus, 4949 Cherry St., Kansas City MO 64110
How does performing in A Christmas Carol work for youth actors?
Youth performers are treated with the same respect, professionalism and care that our adult principal performers receive, and are also held to the same expectations. To help facilitate the workload, answer questions and provide the best structure for rehearsals and performances, two dedicated Youth Coordinators serve as chaperones and liaisons for the cast and families through rehearsal and performances.
What does a typical schedule during the school year look like for youth performers?
While A Christmas Carol does rehearse daily, rehearsal frequency varies by role. We do honor regular school hours for youth cast members, but on student matinee performance days, youth cast members request an excused absence from school from approximately 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. There are 10 student matinees this season; each youth actor will perform in 5 of them.
May I add or change my conflicts after I accept a role?
Not for rehearsals. Availability is a major factor in casting, and the rehearsal calendar is set once the cast is confirmed. Unplanned conflicts can disrupt a tightly scheduled process. After the show moves into performances, youth casts follow a rotating schedule. Families may sometimes arrange a performance trade with their double-cast youth performers, subject to approval.
Who can I contact with additional questions?
Please email casting@kcrep.org or dclark@kcrep.org. Thank you!
